Based on Richard McMunn's experience in the Navy and firefighting, emphasizing work-related skills over personal life in an interview is crucial. He offers his advice on answering common interview questions, broken down into 7 key points.

1."Tell me about yourself": Introduce yourself by highlighting your work-related skills and experiences mentioned in the job description rather than personal life.

Use Power Words like "motivated," "enthusiastic," or "flexible" to describe yourself.

2."Why do you want to work here?": Explain why you want to work for this company by mentioning what you learned about the company and why their values align with yours.

3."What are your strengths?": Focus on your strengths relevant to the job. If there is a gap between your skills and the requirement, mention how you are actively working to improve yourself in that area and provide specific examples of how you have applied your strengths in previous roles.

4."Where do you see yourself in five years?": When answering "where do you see yourself in five years time", avoid saying you want a promotion right away. Instead, focus on how you can learn and grow within the company.

5."What are your weaknesses?": Be honest about your weaknesses, but focus on how you are turning them into strengths.

6."What makes a good team member?":Describe what makes a good team member by giving a specific example of a time you worked well as part of a team.

7."Can you give an example of when you've worked well under pressure?": Provide an example of a time you worked well under pressure using the STAR technique.

    • Situation: Describe the situation or task that you were faced with.
    • Task: Explain what your specific task or goal was in that situation.
    • Action: Describe the actions that you took to complete the task.
    • Result: Explain the results of your actions and what you learned from the experience.
